On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 1972 Private Robert Young serving with the 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 15/09/1916.

In Hexham (St. Andrew’s) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory
of
James,
the beloved husband of
Elizabeth Young of Hexham,
who died March 12th 1907,
aged 48 years,
also Elizabeth his wife,
who died Nov.27th 1942,
aged 82 years.
also Florence Mary,
their daughter,
who died Nov.21st 1903,
aged 3yrs 10mths,
also Elsie their daughter,
who died Dec.18th 1903,
aged 14 months,
also Robert their son
killed in action Sept.15th 1916,
aged 21 years,
also Joseph their son
who died March 5th 1927,
aged 45 years.
John Scott their son,
Died Dec.7th 1931, aged 33 years.

Robert was the second son of the late James and Elizabeth Young of St. Mary’s Chare, Hexham.
