John William was born at Hexham in the first quarter of 1911, the second son of William and Ellen of Hexham. He married Florence (nee Mitcheson) in the fourth quarter of 1931 at Hexham. According to the 1939 Register the couple were living at 102 Round Close, Hexham, along with their three children.
