Charles Ernest was the son of Ernest Charles and Margaret Munson. He was the husband of Constance Munson, Upper Norwood, Surrey. He served in the Great War with the Royal Army Medical Corps (Sergeant 19472) and the Labour Corps (Acting Warrant Officer, Class 2 – 340251). He won the Military Medal as well as being mentioned in despatches and receiving the Meritorious Service Medal. He appears to have been a career soldier.
The 1939 Register records his as living at 55 Constantine Road, Hampstead, London, with his wife of fifteen years and two lodgers. His occupation was as a ‘temporary government War Office clerk.’
