In Hexham (St. Andrew’s) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 36971 Serjeant Harold Brown Hetherington serving with the No.1 Cadet Bn. (Newark), Royal Engineers, who died 30/11/1918.

The family headstone reads:

In memoriam
John Westgarth Hetherington,
who died 12th July 1918,,
aged 69 years,
also Sarah Ann wife of the above,
who died 9th February 1923,
aged 72 years,
also of John Ridley, their son,
who died 30th August 1930,
aged 54 years.

also Joseph, eldest son, who died
4th September 1907, aged 33 years,
Interred at Haydon Bridge,
and their son Harold Brown,
who died 30th November 1918,
aged 32 years,
also their daughter, Amy Dora,
who died 11th April 1933,
aged 52 years.

Resting.

Harold Brown was the youngest son of the late John Westgarth and Sarah Ann Hetherington of Haydon Bridge. Harold had also served with the 136th Army Troops Corps.
