In Ranville War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 228433 Lieutenant Robert Norman Atkinson serving with the Highland Light Infantry and Parachute Regiment, who died 07/07/1944.

In Hexham (St. Andrew's) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Sacred to the memory of Ann wife of John Atkinson Esq of Newbiggin
who died Feb. 28th 1863, aged 54 years.
also the above John Atkinson Esq who died June 27th 1863, aged 63 years,
also Emma, their daughter who died May 1st 1847, aged 4 months,
also Jane Dorothy, their eldest daughter, born March 4th 1835, died March 7th 1901.

Major John Edward Atkinson, late 3rd (K.O.) Hussars, born 1878, died 1948.
Also in memory of his sons.
Captain John Surtees Atkinson, 3rd Light Calvary, Indian Army, killed in action 1942.
Lieut. Robert Norman Atkinson, H.L.I. and Parachute Regiment, killed in action 1944.
Lieut. Leonard Atkinson, South Wales Borderers, killed in action 1944.

Robert Norman was born in 1921 the son of Major J.E. and Elizabeth Atkinson of Kemerton, Worcestershire.

His brothers John Surtees and Leonard also fell.
