Atkinson, S., Capt., M.C., 1918
In Fulford Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Major Surtees Atkinson, M.C., serving with the Royal Field Artillery, who died 07/02/1918.

He was the son of the late Mr. John Atkinson of Newbiggin, Hexham and Mrs. Atkinson of Fulford, York.

In February 1916 he married Miss Margaret Guy, daughter of the Rev. T.E.B. Guy, Vicar of Fulford, and Mrs. Guy. Her sister Christabel Guy was bridesmaid. The best man was Captain J.E. Atkinson, 3rd Hussars, brother of the bridegroom.

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 11/02/1916 reported his wedding
