On the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, France, is the name of 23/643 Lance Corporal John Hymes serving with the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

In Falstone Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Robert Hymers
who died at Plashetts
?? March 1912 aged 69 years
also his wife
Frances Armstrong
who died at Mousey Ha???
18th August 1930 in her 74th year
also their sons
Pte. George Hymers
fell in action in France
31st Octr. 1915, aged 34 years
L/Cpl. John Hymers,
fell in action in France,
1st July 1916, aged 31 years.
five children died in infancy
Henry Hymers
who died 4th October 1936
aged 57 years.
James Hymers,
who died 15th August 1938
aged 54 years.

The brothers are remembered in Bellingham on B18.04 and in Falstone on F6.01 and F6.03
