On the Helles Memorial is the name of 6/10715 Private Cuthbert Robson, serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment (6th Battalion) who died 09/08/1915.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Cuthbert Robson was born at Bedlington, Northumberland about 1894. His parents were James Robson and his mother Isabella Robson from Blyth, Northumberland.

In 1901, Cuthbert’s family lived at Kitty Brewster, Cowpen. This census shows Cuthbert was seven years old with siblings Mathew 11, Dorothy 9, Hannah 4 and Elizabeth 2 in the household.

The 1911 Census shows Cuthbert’s family living at Hirst, Ashington. At this time he was 17 years old and working as a rope haulage lad below ground in the coal mines. Six siblings in the house include Mathew 21, Dorothy 19, Hannah 15, Alice 12, Florence 4 and James aged 2. His father James Robson was not in the family house for 1901 and 1911 Census. In 1911, Cuthbert’s sister Dorothy was recorded as being married to Robert Young and her husband Robert Young is also in the household. Robert Young died in WW1.

Military information shows Cuthbert was born at Bebside and enlisted at Morpeth. Cuthbert’s effects went to his father James Robson indicating he was not married. His Pension Index Card only shows his mother listed.
