Lennon, W., A/Smn., 1917
In Orchard Dump Cemetery, Arleux-en-Gohelle is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/4506 Able Seaman William Lennon, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 29/04/1917.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

William was born on 28th November 1889. He was working as a miner living with his half-brother, Matthew Wilkin at 5, Strongs Buildings, Choppington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 15th May 1915.

He joined the Anson Battalion on 22nd November 1915 and served until 13th November 1916 when he was hospitalised with a gun shot wound to the left thigh.

Robert rejoined the Anson Battalion on 1st March 1917 and was posted as missing, later reported as killed in action on 29th April 1917.

William Lennon is remembered in Choppington on C36.01 and C36.04
