On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 22/1323 Private John Thompson, serving with the 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 01/06/1917 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR

THOMPSON.- Missing since July 1st 1916, now presumed dead, aged 26, Pte. John Thompson, No. 1323, N.F., dearly beloved son of Thomas and Elizabeth Thompson, Windsor House, Guide Post, and grandson of Elizabeth and the late John Kidd, blacksmith, Guide Post.

He is remembered in Choppington on C36.01 and C36.02
