Jefferson, C., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 20/811 Private Christopher Jefferson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Christopher Cuthbert, older brother of Henry, was born in Bedlington in 1883 to John and Barbara Jefferson. Like his father and brothers he worked down the pit. In 1908 he married Elizabeth Wylie and they had two sons, John and Joseph. In 1911 they were living at 18 Victoria Terrace, Bedlington. Christopher was one of the many Tyneside Scottish who died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme and he is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial.

His brothers Henry and William also died.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04 and in Bedlington on B15.02 B15.06 and B15.11
