In Nassau War Cemetery, in the Bahamas, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 548699 Sergeant Harry Gowans, serving with the Royal Air Force, who died 16/10/1944.

Sgt Gowans was serving with 111 Operational Training Unit.

The Morpeth Herald and Reporter of Friday, 26/11/1948, carried the following announcement:

Roll of Honour
GOWANS (Doctor Terrace, Bedlington)
Treasured memories of our dear sons, James, died 27th November 1947, aged 22 years. Also Henry, Sgt., R.A.F., killed in the Bahamas, 16th October 1944, aged 24 years. Death divides, but memories cling. – (Lovingly remembered by their dear parents and family). R.I.P.

He is remembered at Bedlington on B15.08
