In Rheinberg War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 3040078 Sergeant John George Brown, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 03/02/1945.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:

Sgt. Brown was the rear gunner on board Avro Lancaster I PA158 WP-S of 90 Squadron, which was lost on a mission to Dortmund. The Lancaster was shot down by an enemy fighter and exploded in mid-air at approximately 21.30 hours. It crashed in the western suburbs on Munchengladbach, with the loss of all seven crew.
