Hutchison, J., 2nd Lieut., 1916

In Carnoy Military Cemetery, Somme, France, is the Commonwealth War Grave of Second Lieutenant J. Hutchison, serving with the 27th Battalion Manchester Regiment, who died 26/07/1916.

Son of David and Isabella Hutchison, of The Police Station, Blyth, Northumberland.

Morpeth Herald 04/08/1916 carries a brief obituary:

Second-Lieut. J. Hutchinson [sic], Manchester Regiment, son of Inspector Hutchinson, of the Bedlington Police, has been killed. The unfortunate officer was only 20 years of age, and was 6ft 3ins in height. About 18 months ago he enlisted in the Life Guards, but on obtaining a commission was transferred to the Manchester Regiment. Prior to enlistment he was employed as a clerk with Mr C. Alderson, solicitor, Morpeth.

This photo was printed in the Newcastle Daily Chronicle 07/08/1916, but spells his name as "Hutchinson".

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.09
