BEDLINGTON

Armstrong, R., Pte., 1916
In Buire-sur-l'Ancre Communal Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 15774 Private Robert Armstrong, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 16/05/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Robert was born in Bedlington in 1893 to Robert and Catherine Armstrong. He was one of 9 children and his father was a miner. In 1901 the family were living at Choppington, and in 1911 they were living in Barrington, and Robert had gone to work down the pit as a putter. On his CWGC certificate Robert's father is still living at the address in Barrington, while the Enlistment Book gives Robert's address as 12, Third Street, Netherton Colliery, which seems to indicate that he may have married.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.06 and B15.26 page 122
