In Cite Bonjean Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 11072 Corporal John O’Hare serving with the 10th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales Own) who died 05/05/1916.

Carole Fife and Derek Johnstone have provided the following:

John O’Hare is shown in the Record of Enlistment incorrectly with the surname Chave.

John, one of at least 4 children, was born at Morpeth, Northumberland in 1890 to parents Sarah and Robert O’Hare. In the 1901 Census John is 10 years old and he is living with his widowed mother and siblings Mary Jane 8, Robert 3 and Sarah aged 1 at 4, Oldgate Street, Morpeth. It would appear his father had died in the previous year.

By 1911 the family had spilt up and John and his elder sister Mary Jane were living at 7, Milk Square at Morpeth in the house of their eldest sister Phyllis Cunningham and husband John. John O’Hare was coal miner hewer at this time.

John married Catherine Graham in 1912 when they lived at Vulcan Place, Bedlington. At this time the records show they had one daughter Catherine who was born in 1913.

John enlisted at Morpeth and went out to France on 13th July 1915. He died 5th June 1916 aged 26 years. His effects went to his widow Catherine.

John O'Hare is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.06 and B15.26 page 73, where his name appears as "Chave", and in Morpeth on M17.01, and M17.17
