On the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 19548 Private Thomas Hope Morton, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (14th Battalion) who died 22/3/1918.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Thomas Hope Morton was born at Bedlington in Q3 1894 to parents John, a coal miner and Sarah Jane Morton. His family was living at Catholic Row, Bedlington in 1901 and included two siblings, Elizabeth Ann, aged 12, and John Robert, aged 6.

In 1911, Thomas was single, aged 16 and working in the coal mines as a pony driver below ground. At this time he was living with his family at 23rd First Street, Netherton, a village near to Bedlington. Thomas enlisted at Bedlington, Northumberland when living at 23, East Row, according to the Record of Enlistments, but it is not clear where this was. Thomas did not marry and his effects to his father John.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.07 and B15.26 page 103
