On the Arras Memorial is the name of 32339 Private Michael Kane, serving with the Yorks and Lancaster Regiment (10th Service Battalion), who died 21/04/1917.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Michael Kane was the son of Irish parents John and Annie Kane and was born in 1896 at Bonnington, Midlothian, Scotland in 1896. In 1901 his family was still living in Bonnington, Scotland. The 1911 Census shows his family, which included siblings Julia 22, John 18, Catherine 12 and James 12, living at Maiden’s Hall, Morpeth. Michael enlisted at Bedlington, Northumberland when living at Windmill Farm, Choppington and does not appear to have married, his effects on his death going to his father John. Michael’s occupation was a roadman with Morpeth Council.

Michael was the younger brother of John Kane of the Northamptonshire Regiment who was killed in action in 1917.
