Hay, G.H., Pte., M.M. and Bar, 1918
In the Wimereux Communal Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 20/801 Private George Hindmarsh Hay, M.M. and Bar, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (9th Battalion) who died 17/04/1918.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

George Hindmarsh Hay was born at Bedlington, Northumberland in 1896 and his parents were Andrew and Catherine Hay. Census records show in 1901 he was living at Front Street Bedlington with five brothers and one sister; his father was an innkeeper. George’s father died at the end of 1901 and his mother re-married in about 1905 to Robert Younger who was a miner. In 1911, George who was a surface worker at a coal mine was living at The Quay, East End Bedlington with his mother and stepfather. George enlisted at Bedlington while living at Millbank Crescent and military documents confirm he died of his wounds aged 21 years. On his death his effects went to Prudence Sanderson. There are no records to show George to have married.
