On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 20/564 Private Albert James Henderson, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Scottish) 20th Battalion who died 01/07/1916.

Albert James Henderson was the son of Thomas and Isabella Henderson and was born in 1897 at Bedlington, Northumberland. In 1891 his family, which included 5 children, was living at Doctor Terrace, Bedlington and in 1901, after Albert was born, the family were still living in the same street. James’s father was a coal miner working at the local colliery. His mother, Isabella, died in 1907 and his father married Margaret Davis. James lived at 26, Doctor Terrace, Bedlington in 1911 which was the same address shown on the Record of Enlistments when he enlisted. James worked in the coal mines as a pony driver and did not marry. He was 19 years old when he died.
