Tait, S., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 20/666 Private Stephen Tait serving with the 20th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Stephen's military record shows that he was born and enlisted in Bedlington and that he died in action. He was born in 1892, the youngest of five sons to William and Mary Tait, but his father died when he was an infant. The family lived in Shiney Row, Bedlington, with the boys all going to work in the pit. In 1911 Stephen was a pony putter. He married Isabella Strong in the autumn of 1913 and they had two children, James in 1914 and Stephen in 1916.

Stephen Tait is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02 and B15.06
