Hope, G., Pte., 1915
On the Helles Memorial, Dardanelles, is the name of 4063 Private George Hope serving with 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 19/08/1915.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

George was born in Cowpen, Blyth, to John Thomas Hope and Mary Ann (nee O'Donnell). He was baptised at St Cuthbert's, Cowpen on 30th August 1893. John was a miner and George was the eldest of six children; In 1901 the family were living at 20. Portland Place, Pegswood, but by 1911 they had moved via Blyth to 29, Bomersund, Stakeford, and George and his brother Hugh had gone to work at the pit with their father. George was a putter and Hugh a pony driver. To have served in the Gallipoli campaign George must have been one of the first men in Bedlington to enlist into the Northumberland Fusiliers.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.06 and B15.17
