On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 23/984 Private William Walker serving with 23rd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 22/06/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

William was born in Bedlington in 1874 to Michael and Margaret Walker. His father was a hewer and the family were living in Shiney Row, Bedlington , in 1891. William married Susannah Turnbull in 1897 and they had four children: Edna (1907), Isabella (1912), William (1913) and George (1915). In 1901 they were living in Steven's Buildings, Bedlington, but by 1911 they had moved to 10, Millbank Crescent, and the Enlistment Book gives his address as 10, Whitsun Avenue. William was a hewer like his father. He was one of the older men to enlist and died in the skirmishing that preceded the battle of the Somme..

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.03, B15.06, B15.20 and in B15.26 page 57
