BEDLINGTON

Straker, A.C., Rifleman 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of C/1645 Rifleman Adrian Charles Straker serving with 11th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps who died 18/09/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Adrian was born in Bedlington in 1895, the sixth child and fourth son of George and Mary Straker. His father was a miner and in 1901 the family were living at Doctor Terrace, Bedlington. By 1911 the family had moved to 15, Beech Grove. His eldest two brothers had left home so I don't know what jobs they had, but Adrian and his older brother Robert had fared better than most miners' sons in that they weren't having to work underground, and both had been apprenticed to Co-op departments. Adrian enlisted in Bedlington, and his legatee was his father, which would indicate that he wasn't married. Adrian's older brother Robert served in the Black Watch, and his younger brother Hubert served in the Royal Navy, and they both survived the War.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.09, B15.20 and in B15.26 page 60
