Russell, A., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 23/199 Private Alexander Russell, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

Alexander Russell was born in Bedlington in 1894 and was living at Smiths Buildings in that town when he enlisted. It does not appear he was married as military records show his effects went to his mother Mrs Mary Russell. In 1911 he was living with his family at Coach Road, Bedlington as a single person and was working in the coal mines.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.06, B15.20 and B15.26
