W. Hall

On the Helles Memorial is the name of 16313 Lance Serjeant William Hall, serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment who died 09/08/1915.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

William was born in Bedlington in 1892, the eldest son of George William and Isabella Hall. His father was a blacksmith, presumably at the colliery for in 1901 they were living at 47, Howard Row, Netherton Colliery, and in 1911 they were at 14, Shiney Row, Bedlington, both of which were colliery rows. In 1911 William was working underground as a colliery labourer. I can find no marriage for William Hall to Lillias or Lilias, but in 1914 a William Hall married Lilian Futers in Chester-le-Street. Serving with 6th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment indicates that he was one of the first men in Bedlington to enlist.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.01, B15.02, B15.06, B15.07 and B15.26 page 70
