Hale, A., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 20/557 Private Alexander Hale, serving with the 20th (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Alexander was born in Bedlington in 1896, the fourth of twelve children to Joseph and Mary Hale. In both the 1901 and 1911 censuses the family were living at Doctor Terrace, Bedlington, and after attending Whitley Memorial School Alexander and his brothers joined their father in working down the pit, with Alexander being a stone man in 1911.

Morpeth Herald 17/11/1916 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR

HALE.- In loving memory of Alexander Hale, the beloved son of Joseph and Mary Hale, of 20 Doctor Terrace, Bedlington, who was killed in action on July 1st, 1916.- (Ever remembered by his loving father, mother, brothers and sisters).
