Grant, W., Pte., 1916
In Essex Farm Cemetery, West Flanders, Belgium, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 15664 Private William Grant serving with 1st Battalion Somerset Light Infantry who died 09/08/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

William's military record shows that he was born in Melrose in the Scottish Borders in1879 but enlisted in Bedlington. He had evidently moved south in search of work, and he became a miner. In 1903 he married Mary Ellen Robson of Bedlington. At the time of the 1911 census they were living at Olivers' Buildings, Bedlington, and they had four children; Dorothy Jane (1904), George Robert (1906), William (1910) and Mary (1911).Although serving with the Somerset Light Infantry at the time of his death William had originally joined the Northumberland Fusiliers with a service number of 14490. He was 37 when he died.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.06 and B15.26 page 97
