Brooks (Brookes) E., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 15097 Private Edward Brookes serving with 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 26/09/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Edward is named in military information as 'Brookes' but in census and registration information as 'Brooks'. He was born in Amble in the spring of 1886, one of 10 children to James and Ellenor Brooks and his father was a miner. In 1891 the family were living in Pegswood at Bothal Terrace, but in 1911 they were at Back Street in Choppington. Edward married Mary Ford in 1908, and in 1911 he was working as a miner and he and his wife and children were living at Byron St., Choppington, before moving to Salmon Place in Bedlington. They had four children James, Archer, Maggie and Laura.

He is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02 as Brookes and in B15.26 page 78
