On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 23/662 Private John Skidmore, serving with the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 02/03/1917 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR
SKIDMORE.- Previously reported missing, now reported killed in action on July 1st, 1916, Pte. John Skidmore, N.F., dearly beloved husband of Sarah Jane Skidmore, of 210 Sycamore Street, Ashington.- Deeply mourned by his wife and two children.
