On the Helles Memorial is the name of Z/1930 Able Seaman John Thompson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 04/06/1915.

John was born on February 13th 1893 in Gateshead. He was working as a miner living at 139, Pont Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on November 16th 1914.

He joined the 1st Platoon, "D" Company of the Collingwood Battalion on March 4th 1915 and was posted as wounded and missing assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on June 4th 1915.

John Thompson is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
