Thompson, Arthur, A/Smn. KX/441, 1916
In Ancre British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of KX/441 Able Seaman Arthur Thompson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/11/1916.

Arthur was born on October 20th 1894. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Richard and Susan at 57, Beatrice Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on September 2nd 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on September 9th 1914 and joined the Hood Battalion on the same day. Arthur served until June 4th 1915 when he was hospitalised with a hand injury in Gallipoli.

He rejoined the Hood Battalion on August 15th 1915 and was transferred to the 3rd (RN) Field Hospital on September 11th 1915 and then to the 18th Sanitary Section at Mudros on December 7th 1915.

Arthur rejoined the Hood Battalion on January 23rd 1916 and was granted UK leave on October 21st 1916 before rejoining the Hood Battalion again in France on November 6th 1916. Arthur was killed in action on November 13th 1916.

Arthur Thompson is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
