ASHINGTON

Patterson, H., A/Smn., 1916
In Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart is the Commonwealth War Grave of KX/79 Able Seaman Henry Patterson, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 10/11/1916.

Margaret Allison states that in 1911 his address was 33 Seventh Row, Ashington.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Henry was born in 1895. He was working as a miner living with his father, William at 33, Seventh Row, Ashington when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 2nd September 1914.

After transferring to the RNVR on 7th September 1914 Henry joined the Nelson Battalion on 9th September 1914 and served in Antwerp. He then served in the Middle East and was hospitalised in Port Said on 11th April 1915.

After rejoining the Nelson Battalion on 19th May 1915 Henry was hospitalised again on 4th July 1915 suffering from Scabies and again on 22nd September 1915 with Seborrhoea.

Henry rejoined the Nelson Battalion on 22nd December 1915 only to be hospitalised again on 29th December 1915 with a shrapnel wound to the right elbow.

He rejoined the Battalion yet again on 18th March 1916 and then was killed in action on 10th November 1916.
