ASHINGTON

Huntley, C.R., A/Smn., 1916
In Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/3290 Able Seaman Cecil Rhodes Huntley, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, who died 13/11/1916.

Margaret Allison reports that in 1911 his address was 51 East Humber Terrace, Ashington.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

Cecil was born on March 2nd 1895. He was working as a miner living with his brother, George at 220, Chestnut Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on January 4th 1915.

He joined the Howe Battalion on July 18th 1915 and was invalided to the UK on November 25th 1915 suffering from Dysentery.

He joined the Nelson Battalion on September 16th 1916 and was posted as missing later reported as killed in action on November 13th 1916.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
