John was born on 17/03/1888 and was working as a miner living at 32, Sycamore Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 21/08/1915. His next of kin is shown as his father, Samuel living at 73, Ninth Row, Ashington. John joined the Nelson Battalion in France on 16/06/1916 and was killed in action on 23/04/1917.

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27), A17.08 and A17.43
