Taylor, G., A/Smn., 1916

In Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/3316 Able Seaman George Taylor, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/11/1916.

In Newbiggin (St. Bartholomew) Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
Hunter Taylor
the beloved husband of
Elizabeth Taylor
of Newbiggin by the Sea
who died May 7th 1904 aged 43 years.
Also of Jane their daughter,
who died April 26th 1902,
aged 17 years.
Also of their son
George Taylor R.N.D.
who was killed in action in France
Novr. 13th 1916, aged 27 years.
Also of Robert Clark son of the above
who died Aug. 30th 1939 aged 44 years.. . . . . . Elizabeth . . . . . . (the rest cannot be read)

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on May 26th 1889. He was working as a miner living with his wife, Mary at 3, Cross Row, North Seaton, Ashington, when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on January 7th 1915.

He joined the Drake Battalion in Gallipoli on September 21st 1915 and suffered an accidental scalp wound on November 7th 1915.

George rejoined the Battalion on November 28th 1915 and was killed in action in France on November 13th 1916.
