In St.John's Churchyard, Seaton Hirst, is a family headstone which reads:
In
loving memory
of
Elizabeth,
beloved wife of
Robert Scorfield,
of North Seaton Colliery
who died Feby. 11th 1919
aged 65 years.Also of our dear son
Pte. Robert Scorfield
No. 6902, 9th Batt. N.F.
who died from wounds
received in action in France
April 17th 1918, aged 31 years
interred in a British Soldier's
Cemetery south west of Ypres.
Also Robert Scorfield
husband of the above
died Novr. 1st 1930
aged 83 years.
We loved whom God hath taken,
We loved but could not keep,
We strove but He was stronger,
So we may cease to weep.
Margaret Allison reports that his parents lived at 47 Alexander Road, Ashington.
He is remembered in Ashington on A17.43 and in North Seaton on N33.03
