Elliott, W., A/Smn., 1915
On Chatham Naval Memorial is the name of Tyneside/Z/19 Able Seaman William Elliott, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 05/06/1915.

Margaret Allison reports that in 1911 his address was 54 Pont Street, Ashington, and that he was buried at sea.

Colin Boyd has offered the following:

William was born on July 9th 1889. He was working as a miner, living with his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Hannah at 55, Pont Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on November 21st 1914.

He joined the 4th Platoon, 'D' Company of the Collingwood Battalion on March 4th 1915.

Thomas died aboard the Hospital Ship "Somali" from the effects of a gun shot wound to the head on June 4th 1915 and was buried at sea at 4.30 pm on June 6th 1915.

William Elliott is remembered in Ashington on A17.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
