ASHINGTON

Randall, J.G., A/Smn., 1915
In Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Tyneside Z/2279 Able Seaman John George Randall, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 17/05/1915.

Margaret Allison states that he lived at 48 Portia Street, and was aged 18 years when he died.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

John was born on 22nd October 1896. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Robert and Jane at 48, Portia Street, Ashington when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 8th December 1914.

He joined the Hood Battalion on 28th February 1915 and served in Gallipoli until he suffered severe gun shot wounds to both legs on 4th May 1915. John's right leg was amputated on 6th May 1915 and he subsequently died in the 17th General Hospital in Alexandria on 17th May 1915.
