AC2 Straughan was a member of 978 Balloon Squadron. The Newcastle Journal of 10/12/1943 had the following announcement:
“DEATHS
STRAUGHAN. Died in the General Hospital, Calcutta, Dec., 1943, Leading Aircraftman Leslie Straughan, 50½ Maple Street, Ashington. Ever remembered his loving wife and family.”

He is remembered in Ashington on A11.01 (A17.27) and A17.43
