In Svino Churchyard, Denmark, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1148284 Sergeant Norman Shields, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 21/04/1943.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:Sgt Shield was the Navigator/Bomb Aimer aboard Short Stirling III BF463 WP-Q of 90 Squadron, which was shot down on a mission to Rostock. The Stirling was shot down by flak, and crashed at 00.19 hours into the Storebaelt channel, near the island of Sprogo, within the loss of all seven crew members.

Stirling BF463 WP-Q had departed Ridgewell at 2153 for Ops Rostock. It was engaged by 1/lei Flak Abt 985, hit and shot down. The aircraft crashed into Store Baelt nr Sprog at 0131 Nachtjagd Combat Archive 1943 Part 1 Dr Theo Boiten

Also killed in the same incident was Sgt. T.E. Hall
