In Kiel War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1067709 Sergeant (WOp/AG) George Albert Newman, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 17/01/1943.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
Sgt Newman was killed when Avro Lancaster I R5630 OL-T of 83 Squadron was lost on a mission to Berlin. The cause of the loss, and the crash site, are unknown, but of the seven crew, five lost their lives, the other two becoming P.o.W.s.

Lancaster R5360 OL-T had departed Wyton at 1707 for Ops Berlin. It was intercepted at 5600M nr Linten, NE Heide by a Night-Fighter captained by Oblt Martin Drewes (IX/NJG3) and shot down at 2232 for his 3rd AbschussNachtjagd Combat Archive 1943 Part 1 Dr Theo Boiten
