Jacques, R., Sgt., 1944
In Belgrade War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War grave of 1672823 Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Richard Jacques, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, who died 04/07/1944.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
Sgt. Jacques was killed when Handley Page Halifax II (Special) JP292 FW-W of 148 Squadron was lost on a supply dropping operation to southern Poland. The Halifax was shot down at 23.52 (local time) by a Luftwaffe Dornier Do-217 night fighter flown by Oblt. Johannes Krause of 6./NJG101, and crashed about 20 miles SE of the town of Sombor, in modern day Serbia, with the loss of all seven crew.

Also killed in the same incident was W/Off. C.T. Fairweather

He is remembered in Ashington on A17.43, in Hirst on H62.02 and in North Seaton on N33.02
