Flight Sgt Bryson was killed in Avro Lancaster I PB906 JI-B2 of 514 Squadron, which was lost without trace with its eight crew on a mission to bomb a Benzol factory at Wanne-Eickel. The crew were flying on their last mission prior to being screened (taken off operational flying), and PB906 was a new aircraft on its first mission.
