Younger, T., Pte., 1918
In the United Kingdom Book of Remembrance is the name of S/4649 Private Thomas Younger, serving with the 9th Battalion Seaforth Highlanders who died 28/05/1918.

Ken Morrison has provided the following:

Thomas was born in 1878 in Cheswick, Ancroft. He was the son of Andrew and Agnes (Best) Younger of Beal Farm, Beal, Kyloe, Northumberland.

In 1911 Thomas was living in Bowman Forest Bothy, Eckford and was working as a forestry carter. He enlisted at Kelso in September 1914 and landed with his battalion at Boulogne in May 1915.

He was admitted to the 1st Canadian General Hospital in Etaples with severe bronchitis in February 1917 but was diagnosed with Pulmonary Phthisis (tuberculosis) and evacuated to the Keighley War Hospital in Yorkshire.

Thomas was discharged from the army in March and awarded a Silver War Badge (36939) but died of Pulmonary Phthisis in the family home of Beal Farm in Northumberland just over a year later.

His burial place is not known to me and if anyone has ideas where he is interred, I'd be pleased to hear.

Thomas Younger is remembered in Kyloe on K18.01 and also on the Eckford Parish Church memorial now in Eckford Community Hall near Kelso.
