F/Sgt Fiddes was the pilot of Handley Page Halifax II JD467 DY-R of 102 Squadron, which was lost on a mission to Frankfurt. The reason for the aircraft's loss is not known, but of the seven crew, only two surveyed to become P.o.W.s.

Halifax JD467 DY-R had departed Pocklington at 1701 for Ops Frankfurt. It was intercepted at 5600M 3km SSE of Arloffberg, 10km S of Euskirchen by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht-Jagd “Experten” Oblt Ludwig Meister (I/NJG4) and shot down at 1912 for his 17th Abschuss.
