William Halliburton Todd was born on the 17th November 1894, at Ancrum, Roxburgh, the only son of George Renton Todd and his wife Mary, daughter of William Halliburton.
The family resided at Mason House, Lauder, Berwick. Mary's mother was also residing at the same address, Elizabeth Halliburton, in 1901 was aged 54.
William Halliburton Todd was educated at the Lauder Public School, and was a Postman. He joined the King's Own Scottish Borderers Territorials in 1912 at Lauder.
He was called up on Mobilisation at the outbreak of War and was employed on home service as an Instructor on Signalling on the 4th August 1914. He then served with the British Expeditionary Force from August 1917, where he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers.
William died at at no 54 General Hospital, Wimereux on the 12th November 1917, from wounds received in action at Passchendaele Ridge.
He was unmarried.
His commanding officer in Ireland later wrote:- "He was with me a long time, and performed his duties very creditably"
