In Berwick on Tweed Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Lieutenant Frank Weddell Smail, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/12/1915.

The headstone reads:

who died 14th April 1900,
aged 51 years.
Also Ingram Robson Martyn
3rd son of the above, who died
in Alberta, Canada 18th May 1915,
aged 19 years.
Also Lieut. Frank Weddell
Northumberland Fusiliers
2nd son of the above, who died in
London 1st December 1915, from wounds
received in action near Wulverghem
Belgium, 27th June 1915,
aged 23 years.

Henry Richardson Smail
proprietor of the Berwick Advertiser
who died 15th July 1917
aged 71 years.
Also Henry Richardson Smail, Major T.D.
proprietor of the "Berwick Advertiser"
eldest son of the above
who died 30th August 1948, aged 58 years.
