At a special parade in Berwick Barracks, the D.C.M. was presented by Col. Wilkinson to Pte. Douglas, A.S.C., a native of Hawick. The medal was awarded to Douglas for good work in Persia, where after having escaped from the Bolsheviks, by whom he was taken prisoner, he undertook a long single-handed journey to the rescue of a war correspondent, which he successfully accomplished.
