In Rheinberg War Cemetery, Germany, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1554261 Flight Sergeant Robert Fiddes, serving with the 102 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 20/12/1943.

Son of Margaret C. Fiddes, and stepson of George Renton, of Berwick-on-Tweed.

F/Sgt Fiddes was the pilot of Handley Page Halifax II JD467 DY-R of 102 Squadron, which was lost on a mission to Frankfurt. The reason for the aircraft's loss is not know, but of the seven crew, only two surveyed to become P.o.W.s.Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War: 1943;W.R. Chorley; 1996; Midland Counties Publications; ISBN 0 904597 90 3, page 433

Halifax JD467 DY-R had departed Pocklington at 1701 for Ops Frankfurt. It was intercepted at 5600M 3km SSE of Arloffberg, 10km S of Euskirchen by a Night-Fighter captained by Nacht-Jagd “Experten” Oblt Ludwig Meister (I/NJG4) and shot down at 1912 for his 17th Abschuss.
